Will APS mandate the COVID-19 vaccine for children as a requirement before entry into school? Why or why not?

updated Aug. 13

Not at this time. We continue to work with our public health partners to urge our students to get vaccinated as soon as they are eligible, but APS is not requiring the COVID-19 vaccine for students at this time. The COVID-19 vaccine was made available to children 12+ and we know it is effective and safe. The Virginia Department of Health has not yet announced a plan to mandate that K-12 school children receive a COVID-19 vaccine, and APS will continue to monitor the guidance as the vaccine becomes more widely available to more students.
