Explore! Discover! Investigate! With a strong inquiry-based approach to learning, Tuckahoe students are taught in an environment that maintains high expectations and standards for all students. The teaching staff uses best instructional practices, higher level thinking skills and problem-solving strategies to ensure academic excellence and achievement. Teachers develop lessons that address a range of learning styles, abilities, interests, and multiple intelligences. Teaching and learning is facilitated with technology and a multisensory program for the delivery of instruction. Academic lessons, activities and projects are further enriched and stimulated by a unifying school theme focused on environmental habitats. In addition, we have created a unique learning environment through our “Discovery Schoolyard” program. It provides a creative and innovative way to meet the needs of the whole child by using our schoolyard as a context for integrating the APS curriculum and providing cross-graded experiences. This educational resource and instructional tool includes an enclosed courtyard, an official National Wildlife Federation Schoolyard Habitat site, outdoor amphitheater, ancient plaza, observations gallery, colonial village and multiple theme gardens.
