Elementary and middle school promotions will remain virtual at this time, per VDOE guidance that in-person ceremonies should be held only for institutions where a degree is conferred, or diploma awarded. Schools may choose to host individual outside drive-by parades or other outside celebratory events that do not require large gatherings, in order to honor their 5th and 8th grade students being promoted.

APS will notify staff, students, and families as soon as plans are finalized for graduation and other end-of-year events, in accordance with guidance from Governor Northam regarding public gatherings and events. The guidance will inform distancing and modifications necessary for health and safety.
