Middle School Hybrid/In-Person Model

The hybrid in-person/distance-learning model delivers in-person instruction in APS schools, with physical distancing and health and safety measures in place to protect students and staff, per CDC and VDH guidelines.

Middle school students will receive synchronous instruction four days a week, Tuesday-Friday. Mondays will continue as asynchronous learning days for all students, and provide time for teacher planning, small group interventions, and teacher and counselor office hours. Students who select the hybrid model will attend school in-person two consecutive days per week. Teachers will instruct both groups of students using a blended learning model. This may mean that some students in school will receive instruction from a teacher who is remote; these students will be monitored and assisted in-person by classroom assistants.

  • Additional instruction will be provided to English Learners as required
  • Special Education services will be provided both in person and virtually to meet IEP hours to every extent possible
  • Social-Emotional Learning will be provided weekly for all grades
  • Modified transportation will be provided, with physical distancing
  • Face coverings/masks are required for students and staff while at school/work unless medically exempt

H-B Woodlawn

H-B Woodlawn is an alternative secondary option program, offering a unique instructional approach for students in grades 6-12. H-B Woodlawn’s schedule varies from the comprehensive high schools and middle schools due to different start/end times, incorporation of TA for grades 6-12 and a Town Meeting held weekly. The H-B Woodlawn schedule for the 2020-21 school year is a modified version of our typical schedule.
