Fall Playgroup In the Park

Join Cooperative Playgroup staff for 30 minutes of outdoor fun this Fall! Our Playgroup Playdates are a family stay and play event, perfect for your 1-3 year-old. Come sing songs, read stories, play movement games and make-or-take an art project! Every week we will offer a new, engaging theme. Beginning Tuesday, September 28, join us on Tuesdays at Madison Community Center, Wednesdays at Fairlington Community Center and Fridays at High View Park from 9:30 a.m.–10:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.–11:00 a.m. We will practice social distancing and recommend that each family bring a blanket. Child must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required and is first-come first-serve. Please limit to 1 location and session per week. Register here and search using activity number 710832.

Tiny Tot: Nature Shapes: September 28, 2021, 10:30 am-11:00 am

Long Branch Nature Center at Glencarlyn Park

Ages 18 to 35 months with adult. Tiny Tot programs provide opportunities to interact one-on-one with your child while discovering the wonders of nature. Each program will engage your child with hands-on learning and may include a variety of activities like songs, crafts, finger plays and mini-hikes. Tiny Tot programs are offered throughout the year at Gulf and Long Branch Nature Centers. Each program has a theme not published ahead of time for flexibility in incorporating changeable aspects of the park and its wildlife into the programs. Themes repeat so please register for only one program at each center per month. Caretakers must stay with their child during the program. Registration Required.Register online or call 703-228-4747. Has your child been referred for a special education evaluation? Are you concerned that your child may need special education services? Would you like to know more about the special education process, and the important role you, as a parent, play in this process? Join Parent Resource Center Coordinators Kathleen Donovan and Gina DeSalvo for this free session to learn more about the special education process, from student support team meetings and special education referrals through identification and delivery of special education services. This session will address:

  • Regulations guiding special education
  • The role of the family in the special education process
  • How to prepare for Student Support Team and special education meetings
  • The special education “cycle”
  • Questions families may have about the process

2021-2022 Creative Preschoolers Program registration opens April 27.

These are recreational, play-based environments created for children ages 3-5 years old. The programs run September through May. Call 703-228-4747 to check for availability and to enroll.

Parents in a Pandemic – Virtual Support Group

The Arc of Northern Virginia is partnering with Developmental Support Associates (DSA) to offer a virtual family support group for local families who care for children, youths, and young adults with developmental and/or behavioral challenges. The immediate goal is to help families collaborate with professionals and with each other in order to break out of isolation and share experiences, thoughts, feelings, and novel strategies for promoting personal and social growth. Since the program began,  Meetings are free, but pre-registration is required.
