APS is proud to announce our October 2025 All Stars. This month we honor five staff members who go above and beyond to make APS a great place to learn and thrive. Please join us in celebrating:
🎶 Erin Pavolko
Music Teacher, Alice West Fleet Elementary School
Erin Pavolko makes music accessible for all students, including those who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH). She adapts lessons with color‑coded notation, visual supports and collaboration with interpreters so students can participate with confidence. She also weaves Deaf Awareness Month into instruction and teaches classmates simple ASL phrases so peers can connect during music. Ms. Pavolko models creativity, equity and care in every class.
🎵 Catrina Tangchittsumran (Ms. T)
Band Teacher, Thomas Jefferson Middle School
Ms. T wears many hats at Jefferson. She leads the band program, coordinates schedules, supports SEL and serves as a reliable problem solver for staff and students. She champions diversity in music by highlighting female composers and composers of color, elevating voices that inspire students to see themselves in the arts. Her leadership builds community and lifts every learner.
☀️ Eve Rutzen
Teacher, Glebe Elementary School
A trusted presence at Glebe, Eve Rutzen welcomes new families to school life and supports colleagues with steady kindness. As Chair of the Hospitality Committee, she organizes simple pick‑me‑ups—snacks, treats and beverages—that create connection across the building. Ms. Rutzen’s resourcefulness and empathy bring sunshine when it is needed most.
🛡️ Thomas “TJ” Johnson
Lead Safety Coordinator (LSC), Wakefield High School
TJ Johnson models integrity, consistency and teamwork. He has built strong relationships with students and staff at Wakefield and supports other schools as well. His servant leadership creates safe, welcoming environments where trust is the norm. TJ’s collaboration with families and community partners, including a recent PTA invitation at Claremont, reflects his commitment to safety and care.
📊 Jonathan Turrisi
Director of Accountability, Evaluation and Strategic Planning, Office of School Support, Syphax Education Center
Jonathan Turrisi blends data and vision to move APS forward. Known for professionalism and quiet excellence, he turns complex information into clear, actionable plans. He helped transform the division’s strategic plan into a living roadmap with measurable goals and shared accountability. Colleagues value his calm judgment, mentorship and collaborative approach.
