Parent Resource Center Monday Message: June 5, 2023

Good evening, and Happy June to each of you. We know these final weeks of school are filled with many school-based events for students and families, so our parent learning sessions have concluded for this academic year, and will resume at the beginning of the new school year. We are planning for a great 23-24, and would LOVE your input on topics of interest.

Also, as you may have heard, Arlington Public Schools will launch its new, redesigned website in early July. We are excited to be working closely with our webmaster on bringing you a new, more intuitive and user friendly Parent Resource Center website. The new design shifts to a more graphics-oriented, intuitive layout which should make navigation easier for all audiences. Please take a moment to let us know what type of information you would like to see on the newly designed Parent Resource Center website at: https://forms.gle/pHBwFXX9YboB4q7s7 by June 8, 2023.

METRO is coming to The Arc of Northern Virginia
Tuesday, June 13, 2023: 12:00  – 1:30 p.m
The Arc of Northern Virginia
2755 Hartland Road, Suite 200, Falls Church, VA 22043

Reduced Fare Program (Reduced Fare SmarTrip® Photo ID Card): Metrobus and Metrorail customers with disabilities may be eligible to ride at a discounted rate. Those customers who qualify will be issued a Reduced Fare SmarTrip® photo ID card. People with disabilities who have a Reduced Fare SmarTrip® Photo ID card may ride for half the peak fare on Metrorail, and for $1.00 on regular Metrobus routes. Riders also qualify for discounted fare on other participating bus service providers.  Review Reduced Fare Program eligibility guidelines
MetroAccess is the region’s complementary paratransit service offered in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Unlike non-emergency medical transportation, MetroAccess is a shared ride public transportation service for people who are unable to use the accessible fixed-route Metrobus and Metrorail public transit due to disability. MetroAccess can be used for any trip purpose within 3/4 of a mile of areas serviced by Metrobus and Metrorail, during the same hours of operation as regular Metrobus and Metrorail service. “Shared ride” means that multiple passengers may ride together in the same vehicle.  Review MetroAccess eligibility guidelines

Representatives from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (METRO) will be at The Arc of Northern Virginia on June 13th to take photos and process applications for the Reduced Fare Program.  They will also take photos and accept applications for the MetroAccess Door to Door Paratransit program. These are two separate programs, with separate application forms.  Please take the time to understand which program you want to access, and understand the application process.  For more information, please contact Diane Monnig at [email protected].
