About the School Board

Arlington Public Schools - School Board

 
The School Board is composed of five members who serve overlapping four-year terms. The terms commence on January 1 of the year following the election.  Citizens interested in the election process should contact the office of Voter Registration and the Electoral Board of Arlington County at 703-228-3456 for more information.

 The Arlington Public School Division is governed by School Board Policies and Policy Implementation Procedures (PIPs).  The policies and PIPs can be accessed electronically by clicking on the link above.  To obtain a paper copy of a policy or PIP, please contact the Office of School and Community Relations at 703-228-6005. 
 
Regular School Board meetings are generally held the first and third Thursday of the month in the Board Room of the Education Center, 1426 N. Quincy Street.  Board meetings are broadcast live on Verizon Channel 70 and FIOS channel 41 and rerun the following Friday at 9:00 p.m. and the following Monday at 7:30 p.m.  Citizens may also download the broadcast from the web site during the meetings by clicking here

The Agenda for each School Board meeting is made public one week prior to the Board meeting and can be viewed on the BoardDocs Web site under the “Meetings” tab at:  https://www.boarddocs.com/vsba/arlington/Board.nsf/Public.   A list of topics that are planned for presentation at Board meetings during the 2011-2012 school year can be found on the Current Issues page.

Open office hours for citizens to visit with School Board members are on Mondays from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. (walk-in/no appointment needed) during the school year.  If there is a Monday holiday, open office hours will be held on the following Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the School Board Office.
