APS Educators Inspire Learning in Uganda

Several APS National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) spent their spring break in Uganda, collaborating with local educators through a study tour with Reach for Uganda. Reach for Uganda was founded by John and Joyce Wanda, former Ugandan residents who were inspired by their children’s experience in APS.

The teachers visited three schools—Matuwa Primary School, Arlington Junior School and the newly opened Hawthorne Scribner Secondary School. While abroad, they led professional development workshops focused on collaborative learning, supporting students with special needs and project-based instruction. They also observed classroom teaching, worked directly with students and partnered with teachers in hands-on learning sessions.

APS participants included Kristin Brynsvold (Tuckahoe), Erin Kowalevicz (Randolph) and Megan Zelasko (Campbell), who were proud to represent our schools and community on the global stage. Several other staff members attended, including Inga Schoenbrun, Abby Willard, Jennifer Leach and Martha Braunstein.
