Mobile Access: Your APS OneCard – ACRE App Guide

Welcome to Mobile Access for Arlington County - Department of Parks and Recreation!

In 2023, Arlington Public Schools upgraded its digital access control system to a more sophisticated, cloud-based, and enterprise-wide platform. This enhancement enables the Office of Safety, Security & Emergency Management (SSEM) to issue mobile credentials on a limited basis. This new mobile credential is conveniently available through the ACRE mobile app, incorporating advanced credential management and two-factor authentication for enhanced security. This webpage is designed to assist personnel within the Arlington County – Department of Parks and Recreation in understanding and utilizing the ACRE mobile app for seamless access to designated facilities.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • What is APS OneCard – ACRE Mobile app? APS OneCard refers to the physical badge that APS employees and others use for identification and physical access to APS facilities.
  • In previous years, we were issued a physical card for access. Why the change? Last year, we installed new card readers at every school. To maintain physical security integrity and access into our schools, we do not issue blank cards. The APS OneCard is assigned to one person. The new system allows us to issue mobile credentials through the ACRE mobile app.
  • I work at several summer camp schools – does my access and app work everywhere? Yes, once you download the ACRE mobile app, it will work at every one of your schools.
  • How do I get the ACRE app? After you fill out the form, SSEM will download the data and begin to enroll staff. You will receive an email from: [email protected], subject: APS OneCard Mobile App.
  • When will I get an email from ACRE One? The enrollment period starts on TBD. Be on the lookout for an email with enrollment instructions.
  • I got the email – how do I enroll? At this point, you have downloaded the ACRE app for your phone, see links above. Open the email and copy the “unique code” – mostly all cap letters with dashes. The unique code is for you only, it will look like this, for example: U-JLML-LMJE (do not use). Open the app on your phone, and paste your unique code into the app. That’s it – there’s nothing else you need to do at this point.
  • How does the ACRE mobile app work? Watch this awesome 🤩video for a demo of the app and how it works. Simply open the app and present your phone to a card reader in front of the door. You will hear a click and the card reader will go from red (locked) to green (open).
  • I am an APS employee with a APS OneCard – do I get a mobile credential? No, you will not get a mobile credential. However, your APS OneCard will work at all summer camp schools.
  • I am not going to download an app to my personal device – how do I get access to a school? If you are unwilling to download the ACRE mobile app – our guidance is to coordinate with your Camp manager for access into the school.
  • I used to prop open doors for access – why not prop open the door? One of the most impactful ways you can keep yourself, fellow staff, and students safe from threats is by properly securing doors. Due to the seriousness of threats that face APS facilities, we do not prop open doors. SSEM has spent a tremendous amount of time and resources to install industry-leading physical and technical security technology throughout the schools. That technology lowers our risk from several threats. The emergency response protocols teach us that in the event of an act of violence toward a school, getting behind a locked door saves lives. We train our staff to never prop open a door.
  • I need help – who can I contact? The first person you need to speak with is your Camp Manager. From there, please take a moment to carefully read this handout and watch the “how to” video. If you have questions or concerns, you’re welcome to reach out to Lead School Safety/Security Officer, Alyssa McGowan, [email protected].
