We continue to strengthen and refine our safety practices to ensure that every student, staff member, and visitor feels secure in our schools and facilities.
Staff Training
- School-based staff receive regular training on security protocols and emergency response procedures to ensure preparedness across all campuses.
Annual Safety Audit
Each year, we conduct a safety audit to assess current practices and identify opportunities to enhance safety in our schools.
Updated Guidelines
- High School Check-In: Student ID checks are now in place upon arrival at Wakefield, Washington-Liberty, and Yorktown High Schools (launched in November 2024).
- Visitor Management: We’ve strengthened visitor check-in procedures at schools and aquatic centers, introduced new signage, and released an updated Visitor Management Guide to ensure clear expectations and smooth entry for all guests.
Updated Pool Entry Procedures
We have updated the APS Aquatic Centers admission policies for the pool facilities at Wakefield, Washington-Liberty, and Yorktown high schools to mirror the Arlington Public Schools standard of a 100% ID check against the sex offender database before being allowed to enter any APS pool. Effective Saturday, February 15, 2025, to ensure a safe and secure experience for all students and pool patrons:
- All members of school-based pool facilities and regular visitors are asked to take a photo upon arrival to sign in to the pool’s member management system and will need to use this system moving forward to check-in securely to the pool facilities.
- Drop-in visitors MUST show ID and will be checked on the APS Raptor Visitor Management System, which checks all visitors against the sex offender database prior to entry.
- During Drop-In or Free Swim, senior adults and/or those accompanying children must be checked in through the Raptor Visitor Management System (unless they are members or have already been entered into the system).
- Community Members, who are not swimming, will NOT be permitted to use shower facilities.
- Shower ONLY general admission and passes are no longer available. Patrons who have a valid shower pass may use the remaining visits but MUST use the Individual Changing Rooms (ICR). These will not be renewed.
In addition, APS will assign a School Safety Coordinator (SSC) to each pool to help manage and monitor pool safety and security and oversee visitor management.
