Exact Path for Student Guide K-2

Welcome to Exact Path for K-2 Students!

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Educators,

Exact Path supplements classroom lessons by delivering learning activities that are targeted to your students’ specific skills. This guide is designed to help both you and students become familiar with Exact Path. Students might need your assistance to navigate the program.

My Tests

Your Exact Path adventure will start with a diagnostic test. A test is like a thermometer: it takes your temperature to see where you are in your learning adventure. The tests help to decide what you will learn in your learning paths. You will see the My Tests page when you first log in. Select Start to begin a test.

Kindergarten students will take the Math and Reading Diagnostic. First and Second graders will take the Reading Diagnostic, and the Math Learning Path will be created from your NWEA MAP Growth Math test.

Learning Paths

Learning paths are personalized learning plans made just for you. You will have two learning paths. One for Reading and one for Math. Everyone’s learning path is different. Learning Paths contain activities for you to complete. You practice what you learn and improve your skills. You must complete each activity to move to the next one.

  2. Grades K-2 learning path experience video (7 minutes)

These videos mention working with a teacher, but the experience is the same if you are working on Exact Path at home.

Find Your Learning Paths

This is the screen you see when you log in. The Reading and Math buttons take you to your learning paths. Select one to get started. You should not see a learning path for Language Arts.  If you do, you are not required to work on it. We are going to focus on reading and math this summer.

This is the screen you see when you log in. You will see your name at the top. The Reading and Math buttons take you to your learning paths.

This an example of one skill on a Math learning path. The section at the top tells you what skill you will be learning. The glowing marker shows where you are on the path. It moves to the next spot each time you complete an activity. Select the play button to start the activity.

The screen shows a math learning path noted where you are on the path as a glowing marker and where you are headed. The play button is in the lower center of the screen.

What Activities Look Like

Each activity will look a little different. Here are some examples:

Lessons: Lessons come first. They teach you something new. Press Start or Play to begin the lesson. As part of the lesson, you will answer some questions to check your understanding.

Practices: Practices come next. They start with a reminder of what you learned in the lesson. Then you will answer some questions to practice what you are learning. Listen closely to what the question is asking you do to. You can press the speaker buttons if you need to hear the question or answers again. Select the done button to submit your answers.

The K-2 Exact Path practice screen shows a question and answer choices. The speaker button is in the top left and submit using the purple done button in the bottom center of the screen.

Progress Checks: Progress Checks come last. You are given questions about the skill you have been learning. Questions and answer choices are read to you. You can press the speaker buttons if you need to hear them again. Select the Submit button to submit your answer and see the next question. Score 80% or higher to earn a trophy! Then you can move on to the next skill in your learning path.

Navigating: At the end of each activity, you will see this screen. Choose the big arrow in the middle of the screen to move to your next activity. Or, select the Learning Path button in the top right corner to go back to your learning path.

The screen at the end of the lesson shows a large blue error pointing right.

My Rewards

You earn trophies by mastering skills in your learning paths. Your goal is to earn 1 trophy per week in Math and 1 trophy per week in Reading! For a quick view of your trophies, see the trophy count that is visible at the top of the screen on any page (except the home screen). Find the trophies you’ve earned in the My Rewards area.

Rewards that you earned and are practicing for are shown here. Note that the Latest Earned section may show trophies that have been earned during summer and the school year.

The My Rewards screen has two sections: Practice and Latest Earned. The trophies you are working on or earned will show here.

Time on Task

To see how long you have been working on your learning paths this week, select the Clock icon from the menu.  The pop up tells you how much time you have spent in each of your subjects. It does not count how long you have spent completing diagnostic tests. You should spend 15 minutes per day in your Reading Learning Path and 15 minutes per day in your Math Learning Paths.
