We are writing to acknowledge and apologize for an unacceptable incident that occurred during the Jan. 13 Zoom meeting that APS hosted regarding SchooLinks. During the presentation, an unauthorized individual gained access to the shared screen and used that access to draw a sexually explicit image and began writing the N-word, a racial slur.
This unacceptable and offensive content was visible to all meeting participants. The facilitator and staff took immediate action to remove the individual from the meeting and reconfirmed that the correct settings were applied.
We sincerely apologize to everyone who attended the meeting and witnessed this incident. APS does not tolerate this type of behavior or any form of harassment, racism or discrimination.
APS is investigating this further to fully review how access was gained and measures we can put in place to prevent this from happening in the future.
Thank you to our staff who acted swiftly to respond and to those participants who reached out. We remain committed to fostering learning and engagement environments, both in person and online, that are safe, inclusive, and affirming for all.
