Drew Social Worker Earns Prestigious National Certification
Dr. Charles R. Drew Elementary School social worker Carol “CJ” Burka was recently recognized as a National Certified School Social Worker.
This is a rigorous, advanced credential that requires a master’s degree, at least four years of post-graduate experience in school social work, and demonstration of mastery across nine professional competencies aligned with the National School Social Work Practice Model.
This certification highlights CJ’s professional excellence and commitment to supporting students, families, and schools. CJ is the first social worker in APS to earn this certification, the 13th in Virginia, and the 51st nationwide since the certification launched in 2021. CJ is an Arlington native and a graduate of Washington-Liberty High School.
Arlington Public Schools recognizes 29 teachers, counselors, or librarians who have achieved or maintained their National Board Certification.
