Arlington Public Schools has Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Implementation Coaches who are available to meet one-on-one with families virtually or in-person at the Syphax Education Center or at your student’s school to:

Discuss and support the use of AAC implementation strategies and best practices in the home
Talk through progress and challenges with AAC implementation at home

What is AAC Coaching?

A resource available to APS family members of students who use any form of Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC)
An opportunity for individualized, collaborative coaching sessions

Is AAC Implementation Coaching for Me?

My child is a new AAC user. I have had an initial training with AsTech. (If not, start there!)
I want to further develop my abilities to support my child using AAC at home.
I am motivated to work collaboratively with an AAC Coach to identify strengths and barriers to optimal AAC implementation support.
I struggle to implement AAC best practices with my child (e.g., ensuring the device is accessible at all times, modeling AAC, focusing on core vocabulary, etc.)
