Superintendent’s Oct. 25, 2023 Update

Dear APS Families,

The following are updates regarding the School Board’s amended FY 2024 Budget, our APS Strategic Plan and next week’s first annual Safety and Emergency Preparedness Week.

FY 2024 Budget Revision: At tomorrow’s School Board meeting, the Board will adopt a revised FY 2024 Budget that will include a 2% increase for all APS staff, taking effect on Jan. 1, 2024. The Board’s budget revisions are based on the state’s budget, which the Governor passed Sept. 14, 2023.

APS Strategic Plan Questionnaire: Feedback on Draft Mission, Vision and Values: Since kicking off our work on the 2024-30 APS Strategic Plan in September, we have heard from over 4,400 students, staff, families, and community members. This initial feedback is invaluable and has informed the Steering Committee’s revisions to the current APS mission, vision, core values and priorities. The draft is now available for feedback, and I invite all families to share feedback on the draft by completing a questionnaire by Sun, Nov. 5. It takes about 8 minutes to complete, and responses will inform the final recommendation.

For additional information or questions, please visit the Development of the 2024-30-Strategic Plan webpage or email engage@apsva.us.

First Annual APS Safety and Emergency Preparedness Week: Beginning on Monday, will hold our first annual safety week and look forward to sharing information, resources and training opportunities to help all families feel assured and informed regarding our safety plans and efforts to keep students, schools and our community safe. To kick off the week’s activities, I will send next week’s update on Monday, October 30, instead of Wednesday.

Thank you for your partnership.

Sincerely,

Dr. Francisco Durán
Superintendent
