Good evening. We cannot let February slip by without acknowledging that February is Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Month. We are fortunate in Arlington to have a talented, dedicated and devoted TR team, providing access to and inclusion in recreational opportunities in Arlington County. The Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Office provides specialized services for individuals with disabilities in both adapted and general recreation programs. They work with participants, parents/guardians, and staff to help ensure that supports are in place to promote an enjoyable and successful program experience. We extend our gratitude to and wish TR Unit Manager April Rosenthal, along with her team – Cat Trovato, Robyn Mitchell, Caitlyn Shann and Nicholas Johnson – a very happy Therapeutic Recreation Month. There are a number of upcoming opportunities for parents/guardians/caregivers to learn more about Substance Abuse coming up. Arlington Public Schools is hosting two more Community Conversations on Substance Use this week. Families are invited to participate in upcoming community conversations at high schools, which will provide information about opioids, fentanyl, and naloxone, as well as warning signs of substance abuse. The meetings are also open to elementary and middle school families.
Yorktown’s session was held earlier this evening. Future session will take place from 7 – 8 p.m as follows:
- Wakefield: Wed, March 1
- Washington-Liberty: Thu, March 2
Additionally, Arlington County is offering free, online Substance Use Education tomorrow, Tuesday, February 28th in English from 6-7:30pm and in Spanish from 7-8:30pm. Register for the English session at this link, and register for the Spanish session at this link.
Finally, if you missed the Parent Resource Center and Arlington SEPTA’s joint Substance Use and Neurodiverse Kids, a link to the session recordings and materials are in our Resources section below.
