Arlington Career Center Naming Process

As the construction of a new facility for the Arlington Career Center (ACC) begins, the School Board initiated a naming process for the new ACC building. On Jan. 25, 2024, the School Board approved the ACC naming committee comprised of staff, students, families, and community members. The committee’s charge is to either reaffirm the current name or propose a new name for the building. This is not a process to rename any of the programs within ACC. The committee will follow the guidance for renaming within School Board Policy F-6.1 Naming of Facilities in conducting this process from January 2024 – May 2024.

What to Expect Throughout the Naming Process

  • Meeting schedules will be posted on the Engage section of the APS website
  • Interested members of the community may attend meetings as observers
  • Each committee member will be charged with soliciting input from their corresponding school, neighborhood or community groups
  • Minutes of meetings will be posted on the Engage section of the APS website

Community input may be solicited via:

  • School or civic group meetings
  • Input/Surveys from: Students, Parents, Community
  • Engage with APS emails
  • Other input as received

Community Engagement

Community engagement will be part of the committee’s work as they solicit recommendations and input from their corresponding constituent groups.

Engagement may include the following:

  • Reaching out to the member that is associated with your group to ask questions or share your ideas
  • Asking a committee member to talk with your group or share the meeting summaries with your group
  • Participating when opportunities arise for the community to provide feedback (through survey or other opportunities)
  • Sharing information on your organization’s listserv or email group

School Community Engagement: January – May 2024

  • Develop recommended name with input from the community

Arlington Career Center Project

The School Board approved the Arlington Career Center Schematic Design at the Oct. 27, 2022 School Board Meeting. The base educational specifications for the building will accommodate 1,550 students for a cost of $182.42 million. A majority of the funds for this project was incorporated in the 2022 School Bond Referendum. The new Arlington Career Center Building will be completed in December 2025 and all phases of the project are scheduled to be completed by April 2027.
