This November, APS proudly spotlights our APS All Stars—five exceptional staff members who exemplify excellence in collaboration, equity and innovation. These individuals are the backbone of our community, tirelessly working to create a positive, supportive environment for colleagues, students and families. Their dedication aligns perfectly with our mission– ensuring every student thrives in a nurturing and inclusive learning space. Join us in celebrating these inspirational role models who are making a real difference in APS and beyond.

Ingrid Clarke-Marshall

Glebe
Committed Supportive Inclusive Dedicated Leader

Ms. Clarke-Marshall has been the assistant principal at Glebe for 19 years and worked at Glebe for 21 and she is still having fun and ensuring that our students have what they need from instructional needs, social-emotional needs and daily living needs. Her dedication to all Glebe students is admirable. She is inclusive and makes sure that diversity and equity are at the forefront of all of our decisions.

Chontel “Rosie” Walker

H-B Woodlawn
Positive Community-Building Helpful Observant Loving

Ms. Walker performed energetically as a positive Instructional Assistant last year, helping promote dialogue about respect between community members that helped some difficult students have the chance to mature and improve morale at our school Her helpfulness is evident at every group gathering, helping to restore a room to order, asking how she can assist. She is optimistic and cheering and now serves as an excitement-building Activities Director at our school. Her programming adds fun and resourcefulness.

Her energetic support of our Equity Pillar is needed and essential to the colleagues administering a unique and time-intensive set of learning activities. She is well respected by the students and so well loved by our staff. Her work to support student leaders is extensive and they have a fantastic role model in Ms. Walker. She is an ALL STAR!

Jen Flores

Barrett
Caring Solution-Seeker Collaborative Reflective Organize

I’ve had the honor of teaching with Ms. Flores for over 20 years. She is a National Board Certified Teacher, the Barrett Instructional Lead Teacher and is currently a 1st grade teacher, after teaching PreK, 2nd and 3rd grades. She is a wonder to observe in action as she interacts with her primary students, all of whom are English language learners. She inspires a love of learning in her students with fun, interactive, pedagogy including jumping in rain puddles when teaching about the weather!

Ms. Flores’ ability to speak Spanish provides daily opportunities for her to interact with her families after school during the pickup time on the front lawn. In the summer, she involved not only her students but other families when she co-founded and coordinated a book lending program at the nearby community center which also involved the Arlington Food Assistance Center and the Public Library. Ms. Flores’ organizational skills are much appreciated by the staff at Barrett.

From a Parent Newsletter Template to a Google website “Landing page” with links to frequently accessed files and websites, to meeting with new and experienced teachers to offer insights on how to be more efficient, she makes a positive impact on staff. She also encourages us to be healthy and take time for things like Yoga at school. Her organization and focus on health also come into play with her leadership of the after-school Barrett Runners for staff and students. It is a joy to see Ms. Flores’ former students come back to visit her. The smiles and hugs from the students and families demonstrate the lasting impact she has made.

Billy Breslin

Syphax Education Center
Prompt Friendly Competent Proactive Great

I am nominating Mr. Breslin because of the work he does behind the scenes to support employees across APS. He has always been the most responsive person to 2847 requests. He calls to check in when needed and can troubleshoot and address anything related to telecom! Mr. Breslin and his team are responsible for setting up summer school at all sites and they always do so thoroughly, efficiently, and accurately. Mr. Breslin supported me in opening a brand new school and ensuring that phones were functional and extensions were correct. He is consistently reliable and a pleasure to work with. He is very deserving of recognition!

Samia Bellounis

GunstonEffective Flexible Resourceful DynamicMs. Bellounis has been with APS for 7 years, 3 at Gunston Middle School where she serves as our Substitute Coordinator. As we all know, the teacher and sub shortages have impacted schools nationwide, but that doesn’t “appear” to appear to be the case at Gunston. Ms. Bellounis manages to seamlessly strategize a plan to ensure that all classes are covered and works closely with our Ms. Jackson, our principal making sure that classes are covered – even the last-minute call-ins. She never complains, in fact, her slogan is “All is well.”Thank you Ms. Bellounis from all of us at Gunston. We appreciate your steadfast dedication to our staff and students.
