The Humanities Project is Arlington, Virginia’s artist-in-education program and is jointly supported by Arlington Public Schools Office of Academics and the Arlington County Office of Cultural Affairs. Cultural enrichment is provided through performances, workshops, residencies, and teacher workshops in Arlington Public Schools. Curriculum objectives, ethnic diversity, and varied learning styles are carefully considered when designing and implementing each program.
History of the Humanities Project
Since its inception in 1973, The Humanities Project has sought to:
- Provide access to cultural resources in the Washington Metropolitan community;
- Integrate the arts into all areas of education;
- Foster an exchange of instructional techniques between artists and teachers; and,
- Increase awareness of and involvement in the arts by both students and teachers.
Funding
Funds for the Humanities Project are allocated from Arlington County to the Community Activities Fund of Arlington Public Schools for projects that benefit schools and community. This funding has been supplemented with PTA and grant support from the Arlington Community Foundation and the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
Participation
