1. 🎭 Hoffman-Boston Students Take Field Trip to the Kennedy Center

Hoffman-Boston All Stars accompanied Ms. Fields, the school’s STEM coordinator, on a trip to the Kennedy Center Reach building.

  • While there, 48 students participated in ED Games Expo for Schools.
  • They were able to try out the latest educational technology and participate in fun STEM engineering projects.

2. 💼 H-B Woodlawn Hosts Career Day

What do you get when you mix a museum exhibit designer, a software engineer, a personal trainer and a pie shop owner with over 700 students? You get H-B Woodlawn’s “Pick Your Passion” Career Day!

  • In observance of HBW’s 4th guiding pillar, Equity, over 30 small business owners, county employees, managers and directors of area organizations joined four HBW graduates to share their career path and experiences with students.
  • These community members discussed their educational and career backgrounds and offered advice to students in three round-robin sessions.
  • Students heard about soft skills as well as training programs and educational opportunities that can help launch a successful career.

3. 🙋🏽‍♂️ Volunteers Shine at APS

Volunteers are critical to the success of APS.

4. 📅 October is Bullying Prevention Month

October is National Bullying Prevention Month and APS is committed to ensuring all students learn and thrive in safe, healthy, and supportive environments.

  • This month all students will participate in lessons and activities to strengthen their understanding and awareness of recognizing, refusing, and reporting bullying behavior; the role of bystanders in bullying prevention; and strategies for building positive, respectful relationships.
  • APS teaches bullying prevention using materials from Second Step and No Place for Hate to educate and empower students to help create safe and supportive school communities.

On Wed, Oct. 18, the entire APS community is encouraged to wear orange in recognition of the Pacer National Bullying Prevention Center’s Unity Day. APS provides a host of resources and helpful FAQs surrounding bullying on our website.


5.  APS All Stars for September 2023 Announced

APS All Stars is back for the 2023-24 school year! APS highlights five outstanding APS employees who make a difference in the lives of our students every day. We’ve seen a record number of entries so far this school year and are happy to award the following individuals with an APS All Stars award. ⭐️ Darlene Garretson, Carlin Springs⭐️ Brian Hicks, Washington-Liberty⭐️ Ellen Smith, Dorothy Hamm⭐️ Sheri Sharwarko, Jamestown⭐️ Lirma Tapia Quiroz, Nottingham

  • All our APS All Stars receive a gift bag, including an Amazon gift card and a free massage donated by Elements Massage in Pentagon City, plus a lunch with the superintendent.
