1. 🎓 APS to Provide “ALL in Tutoring”
The Virginia Dept. of Education announced a new initiative to provide high-intensity tutoring for students in grades three through eight who meet certain criteria.
- VDOE continues to share updated guidance, and the Office of School Support and Academics is working closely with principals to finalize staffing and resources.
- Tutoring is expected to begin for eligible students by mid-November.
- Please note that tutoring will supplement the existing plans our schools have in place for students who need extra support.
- Schools are identifying students who meet the All-In Tutoring requirements.
- The Elementary and Secondary Directors of School Support are working with principals to develop tutoring schedules.

2.📍 School Board to Hold In-Person Open Office Hours at the Central Library on Mon, Oct. 23
On Mon, Oct. 23, School Board members Mary Kadera and Bethany Zecher Sutton will host an In-Person Open Office Hours.
- They will be held from 6-8 p.m. at the Central Library (Quincy Room) located at 1015 Quincy St.
- Visitors will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Open Office Hours is a forum for School Board members to listen to comments and concerns and to allow community members to speak to Board members on various topics.

3. 💬 2024-30 APS Strategic Plan Questionnaire: Feedback on the Steering Committee’s Draft Mission, Vision and Core Values
APS is continuing its work to develop the 2024-30 APS Strategic Plan. The Strategic Plan Steering Committee is now seeking feedback on its draft Mission, Vision and Core Values.
- The feedback received from the community will help the Steering Committee further refine the draft proposal.
- The questionnaire is available until Sun, Nov. 5.
APS Parents/Guardians and APS Staff will receive an individual, one-time link to the questionnaire via email. Please check your junk or spam folder if you have not received the email.

4. 🗓️ Calendar Development Underway
APS is currently in the process of developing the school year calendar for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years. The school year calendars will adhere to the parameters in School Board Policy I-4.30 School Year Calendar.
- The school year calendar policy sets specific parameters for the development of school year calendars, limiting the scope of items that can be adjusted.
- The calendars are currently in the process of being developed and will be available to view on BoardDocs on Tue, Nov. 21, 2023.
- The community will be able to provide feedback on the proposed school year calendars, once they are available.

5. 👻 Say Boo to the Flu: Free Clinic at Drew Elementary Tomorrow
The Arlington County Public Health Division is offering free flu vaccines.
- Tomorrow, Sat, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- Charles R. Drew Elementary School and Community Center.
- This event is open to everyone ages 6 months and older; no appointments are needed.
Additionally, On Tue, Oct. 24, from 9 – 11 a.m., the Arlington Free Clinic will be offering free COVID-19 vaccines for uninsured or underinsured adults (18+). Call 703-912-0979 to schedule an appointment. This is in partnership with the Arlington County Public Health Division.
